Holding Out (Hawks Motorcycle Club Series) (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
3 Stars ....Stick With Series!!, This is a hard book to review. It had a lot of potential but the heroine was rather irritating. She seemed quite juvenile at times. Not wanting to spoil anything, but her reaction to some devastating news was really odd. And the rationale given by Talon and his strip club manager for something in another scene was all a bit weird. There was a lot of giggling, winking, strange behaviour and some odd dialogue. The end was very dramatic and was well done and I enjoyed the epilogue. I just felt this book may have missed its full potential.Just to add, I have subsequently read the next 2 books and the novella 'Finding Out' . The writing and character development really changes for the better in these books. 'Black Out' is one of my favourite reads this year. Blue and Clary are definitely up there as an awesome couple . I'm glad I read the subsequent novels. The Series is really enjoyable . I think the first book in a series has the hardest job because it has to set the scene and introduce lots of characters. I felt the first book was a bit shaky despite having lots of potential but crikey, Ms Rose has truly created a gorgeous series about an awesome M.C. I'm Hooked! Zara is a young woman with a past she would rather forget about. Hiding with her 6 year old daughter and her mouthy best friend, she is determined to have a life for her and her daughter. Her safe haven just happens to be across the road from the Hawks MC and next door to the Club President, Talon. Talon has had his eye on Zara for the last two years and finally takes a chance to claim her as his own. Unfortunately the past always manages to catch up with you and when Zara's past finally catches up with her, well, it will be explosive. Talon has the exterior image of being the bad, tough, ruthless guy and he will be this when his family is threatened but the reality is he has the biggest heart. This is the guy who has waited two years for a chance with Zara, waiting patiently until she is ready for him. Zara has been through and escaped from a really violent and disturbing situation and come out the other end with a great deal of strength, courage, dignity and herself in tact. She is not afraid to give as good as gets with Talon and will challenge him. Her confidence grows with his attention and devotion. For the most part, this lived up to expectations. As a fan of MC books, I was ready for the roller coaster ride and this book certainly gave you one. There was, however, too much going on at times. It got particularly difficult to keep track of characters, especially when most got introduced in one go. I was hooked from the first page to its thrilling conclusion.
