He had come into the office early this morning after a restless night. Seeing Georgia on Saturday had brought back the nightmare of their parting, and the scandal had played itself over and over in his mind. What he had learned in the bar hadn’t helped a bit, and he was more frustrated than ever. It was raining. Christmas was his least favorite time of the year, the time with the most painful and unpleasant memories. For the last three years, he had managed to spend the holidays with his parents in Vail, leaving just after Thanksgiving and coming back after New Year’s, but they had gone to Australia for three months, and had rented the house for the duration. He opened his desk drawer and took out the vacation brochures he’d collected. His last vacation had been a nightmare. The ‘eligible bachelor’ sign he must have worn on his forehead, the one only women on the make could see, had made his stay unpleasant at best. He tossed the brochures in the trash.
