Now that I've finished this book, maybe I can get something else done around the house! I usually give 4 stars to my favorite cozy mysteries but this one has to be 5 because it was sooo hard to put down. I do love Julie Hyzy's books (both series). Home of the Braised has an imaginative plot, well-drawn characters, and a compelling backdrop of the White House. I've always been fascinated by books surrounding the inner workings of Washington, DC, especially those with the White House and Secret Service. I hope this author continues to write many more novels....I promise to read them all! I love this series and have since book 1. I devour Julie Hyzy's books the day they're released, I just can't control myself! But that means I have high expectations for new additions to the series, and this book didn't disappoint. Good character development & growth without changing too much about the series premise. The plot is fascinating and unpredictable, in a good way! I love the scenes at the white house and the recipes in the back... though I've yet to try to make one! I do think Olivia is a little hard on herself about being who she is: a curious, loyal, protective person who winds up involved in mischief. I would like to see her grow to accept that part of herself more in future books.A great read, make sure you start with the first in the series (State of the Onion)!
