I very much wanted to love this book. Quirky characters, a refreshing writing style, and a hamster. What more could I want from a book? Turns out, quite a bit more. For some reason, I didn't feel emotionally connected to Alex, the protagonist, or to the book itself. It was one of those books that took me awhile to finish because I kept setting it down and forgot about it. It's not that it wasn't good or interesting, I just wasn't... enamored. Did I like it? Yes. Love it? No. What. That sums up my thoughts about this book after reading it. I enjoyed it in small sections, but the problem was I kept waiting for the point. It never came. Instead, the story just tangled up more and more and then at the end when I was expecting the writer to untangle everything at once, he just ended up making it worse. The ending just left me so extremely confused. Did I miss something in the book to understand these last pages? I'm lost.
What do You think about Hou Je Mond En Zeg Iets (2013)?
Reading it a second time might change the 3 stars to a 4. It definitely needs a second read.

This book was rocking my socks off until the last ten pages just flat out depressed me.

The idea of the book is much better than the reality. Don't waste your time or money.
