How I Fall (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

" ...Trying for the impossible is the only way to live...."Anne Eliot has done it again! This time with a cliffhanger that shall kill me slowly! This is a beautifully written book that is absolutely touching ! Recommended for all ages if you have a soft spot for those like Ellen in the book, those who are so strong , despite what people think or say about them...as well as for people like Laura who light up the world with one bit of glitter at a time.I really am horrible with reviews, but I am going to have to come back when I can write one that gives this beauty justice! Buy the book, you won't be dissapointed! Anne recently released How I Fall. She's on my auto buy list, so I quickly added it to my large TBR pile, where it safely landed on top. I started How I Fall thinking I would read a little here and there throughout the day as I was productively getting things accomplished around the house. I found that I couldn't put it down and therefore blame Anne for my untouched to-do list. This story, like Anne's previous books, is a YA. Ellen is 16 and has battled Cerebral Palsy her whole life. She is strong, driven and desperately wants to be seen as something other than the disabled girl. Cam is a star football player that feels boxed in by all the demands that are placed on him by his family. Cam just wants to be able to live his life, and that life doesn't include football. Cam and Ellen are brought together by a chain of events and longtime crushes are revealed. In How I Fall I loved the descriptions of the day by day, or more appropriately, hour by hour struggles that Ellen and Cam experience individually, as well as when they are together. The reader gets this amazing love story, but also this internal struggle of realty vs. how you want to be perceived. While this story does describe and discuss Ellen's CP and her limitations, that is only a small part of the overall story. I think the main theme is about how we all struggle with something, but we can't let that something define or limit us. I do feel the lengths the adults went to in this story to prevent Cam and Ellen from dating was a little exaggerated, but it did add that extra heart pounding element to the story that kept me reading. Warning! This book does have a cliffhanger! My understanding is that this is a 2 book series. Anne if you're reading this, I need book two ASAP!! Overall great story with a very Romeo/Juliet like love story.

The new girl who likes GLITTER has no bearing or whatsoever on why this book is in my to-read pile.
