How To Rape A Straight Guy (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

I only rated this three stars for the following two reasons:One: Curt's inner monologue, to me, at many points, felt contrived. Mind you, I am not one to speak as an ex-con who was brutally sexually assaulted, brutally sexually assaulted others, and then has my sexuality, itself, called into question (due to the aforementioned). However, especially in the latter half of the book, I personally felt it became too artificial and melodramatic. Two: This book could have offered so much more, I feel, than it did. I think the idea is a great one. I just feel that it wasn't explored as far and as deeply as it could have been. By this, I mean it felt a bit hurried to me. But, then again, this is from Curt's perspective, and when looked upon that way, I suppose it is in character - intense, a bit anxious, driven by impulse, and often in denial. That said... this really was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to anyone into this type of fiction. The twist in the story (while mayhaps predictable to a reader like myself) I thought was well done. Curt's relaxed dialect also gives dimension, to both the character and the story. So, yeah, I had fun with this one. A well told story about Curt. Curt's screwed up. Bad childhood leads to bad adulthood and bad decisions. Bad decisions lead him to more bad circumstances, and then yes, more bad decisions. I hurt for him, wanted to cry for the messed up life he had, felt bad for him and was really pissed off at those few people he looked to for guidance through his life and received none. I felt so bad for Curt and what he'd become... Then I'd get mad at myself. Curt's a rapist... how can I feel any sort of compassion for him? Well, this story draws you in, makes you feel. You feel things you didn't think you could. The way Sullivan writes a story is so raw. You are Curt. You're able to rationalize the same way he does. It's quite disturbing, now that I look back. I'm kind of all over the place with this one. At this point, I'm not sure how I feel. Did I love the book? No. Was I totally moved by it? Yes, absolutely. Do I recommend it? Sure... If you can handle reading about rape. Rape from the perspective of the rapist.

What do You think about How To Rape A Straight Guy (2014)?

Dark, smutty but actually has a storyline that is non cliché. Definitely a memorable read.
