Huck the mountain goat loves to eat cardboard boxes, wooly gloves and birds' nests. But his absolutely favorite thing to eat are flowers. Problem is, so do all the other goats, so there aren't many flowers left. Then Huck discovers flowers in other places: on top of a steep hill, on bloomers, in a bouquet and on a hat. Huck's attempts to get to these flowers is comical and makes for a great read-aloud.My only disappointment is that the details in the pictures are small and make it hard to see in a storytime setting. My daughter loves goats so I am predisposed to buy books featuring them. It's a good thing, else I may never have stumbled across this rollicking read-aloud! It's nice when the book gives clues on which words to emphasize. The illustrations, reminiscent of Dr. Seuss, move this hilarious story along. The text invites participation with questions and repeated phrases. This was a perfect addition to our "GNOME-tastic Garden" story time. You see, Huck LOVES to eat flowers and is unstoppable in his pursuit of a tasty morsel.
