Hunting Eichmann: How A Band Of Survivors And A Young Spy Agency Chased Down The World's Most Notorious Nazi (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
This is a shattering work - it's hard to even imagine how concentration camp survivors in 1962 held themselves in check to keep from killing Eichmann (a true "creep" and "monster" . . . words I don't often use to describe nasty people, but that man deserved them). Mossad (and Ben Gurion's government) did absolute right in bringing Eichmann to justice - the lessons of how a cocky little man became instrumental in carrying out the finer points of the "final solution of the Jewish question" will need to be remembered and studied by all people of goodwill for as long as history is recorded and transmitted to future generations. On May 11th 1960, a non de script man got off a bus in a neighborhood just outside Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was average height, wore glasses, and was a foreman in an automobile factory. It was just after 8:00 PM and the weather was cold, windy, and rainy. He lived in a house on Garabaldi street that had no running water and by todays standards was primitive. His name was Ricardo Klement, but his real name was Adolph Eichman, who along with the notorious doctor, Josef Mengale was one of the most wanted Nazi war criminals in the world. He was being watched by a carefully selected team of Mossad agents, each with their own specialty,eg: forging documents, working undercover, etc. On May 11th, Eichman was grabbed by the agents, held for 10 days in a "safe" house and then flown in disguise and drugged on an EL airline to Tel Aviv with a harrowing refueling stop in Africa. It was only when Eichman was safely in Tel Aviv did the the Israeli's advise the world that he was in their custody. This book is a page turner. I cannot recommend it highly enough.Frank
