I first discovered Wendy Lyn Watson when I bought her book, Scoop to Kill. The book cover looked like the quirky type of mysteries that I enjoy reading, so I thought that I'd give it a try. I have since found out that the book is actually the second in her "A Mystery a La Mode" books. So, after enjoying the book, I went back and read the first book in the series--I Scream, You Scream. If you like reading mysteries with fun, likeable characters who always seem to be involved in solving homicides, you'll like this series. Watson has written a third book in the series that I plan on reading soon and I am hoping that the series will continue for a long time to come! Meh. That was my thought as I finished this book. There was not much I particularly liked or made an impression on me, maybe except the ice cream recipes at the back. I kept thinking that the main character was too evident, she insisted in snooping around yet got caught in every single attempt, the police was incredibly dumb and obviously knew nothing about investigating a murder, the mystery wasn't so mysterious after all, etc.The one thing I did find admirable was how flawed the writer made everybody, it's refreshing to see a book in which the ex-husband is not just another one-dimensional jerk. The ending of Tully's marriage wasn't entirely on Wayne's cheating shoulders, clearly enough she had been a terrible wife and partner. As somebody who knows allergic people who breaks out in itchy hives, not buying somebody an antihistamine just because you're tired is beyond selfish, it's cruel.
What do You think about I Scream, You Scream (2009)?
another tea-n-cozy mystery. set in Texas with an ice cream store owner. not bad.
