Mark Hardwicke, super spy meets Stephen Thorpe, gentle country doctor. Their relationship is marred by Mark's guilt ridden obsession with his job. Two years have past since they separated. Stephen has moved on with his life, till he receives a call from Mark begging for a place to stay. What follows is a heartbreaking self dissection by Mark of his choices that have lead him to lose the love of his life. This is a tight, tense story. Mark's soul searching explores the consequences of choices made when a person believes he does not deserve happiness. This is the first time I have read a story located where I live. I admire how well the writer has captured this part of the world. 4.5 stars. It started of a little slow, but in a short time we get to know the maincharacter well and when things picked up, I wasn't just hoping for things to work out for him, but one the edge of my seat, hoping he would at the very least survive. It is told very realitically, with complex characters and deep emotions. None of that silly behavior some character show that makes you want to knock them on the head, doesnÄt make sense and seems only an artificial plot device. There are many emotional layers in this established relationship and it is a fantastic read... or listen. Speaking of the audio, I think the mature voice has the richness of character and experience needed to pull this story off. Highly recommended!!! (there is a audio story collection of the I Spy stories ... as well as the Dangerous Ground Stories)The one thing I really could have lived without is that memories were made to sound metallic and weird to differentiate them and it pulled me right out of the story the few times it happened.
What do You think about I Spy Something Bloody (2008)?
Disappointed.... I'm not sure what I expected but this wasn't it.
