I Will Teach You To Be Rich (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

Oops, did I just buy a beginners personal finance book? That's what I was thinking just a few pages into this book. I heard about Ramit Sethi and this book from a podcast with Noah Kagan and bought it without really reading much of what it was about. As the book started out with the basics of getting your first credit card, selecting a proper bank account, etc. I thought I had made a mistake and almost stopped reading. But I forged ahead anyway as at least Ramit has an entertaining personality. But when I finished it I realized there were some things I needed to hear again, and I'm sure the small adjustments I'm making to my personal financial situation will be well worth the $13 or so I paid for the book.I particularly liked what he said about "conscious spending", making a plan on how you want to spend (and save!) your money, and how regular investing, even small but regular amounts (automatic transfers!) in something as simple as a life-cycle fund, is more important than trying to learn a lot about the market and individual investment picking. The title of this book is highly misleading. From my experience most of the first impressions of this book is mainly criticism against the rich. And the awful wealth distribution in our country.BUT Rammit, defines richness as something different. To be rich is to be able to enjoy life and not worry about money. (not because you have so much that you bathe in it) but because you are responsible with money and planning for your retirement, and other large expenses.Rammit explains, step by step, how to really be more responsible with money. How to save, how to spend, and MOST OF ALL. How to not worry.I highly recommend this book not to "teach you how to be rich" but to teach you how to be RESPONSIBLE with your finances and your future.
