Icefall - Audio Library Edition (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Solveig, her sister Asa, and her brother Harald are hiding out between two mountains and a frozen sea. Their father, the king, sent them there to be safe while he engages in battle with Gunnlaug - the warrior wishing to marry Asa. The king believes his children will be safe if he sends his berserker warriors to the hall as extra protection. However, someone at the hall is a traitor and is plotting to kill all the berserkers to make way for a takeover. The berserker leader, Hake, proves to be more of a challenge than expected. This is a great adventure story with a bit of mystery and intrigue. The mythology woven throughout the story may be appealing to Percy Jackson fans. Solveig, the strong, brave female character may be appealing to girls. Solveig the youngest and most overlooked child of three must face her self doubt/fears and survive a long winter with an unknown traitor among their company. I love all things viking and this story was an interesting, intriguing and a thrilling delight. Sloveig's wages a courageous war against her fear, the traitor within and her father's rival Chieftain, Gunnlaug. She jeopardizes her safety and those she cares most about to be free. I loved reading her story and how she finds freedom and the best form of approval.
