Ich Und Earl Und Das Sterbende Mädchen (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
Greg is a dickheaded asshole. To start with, the book is full of crapload but it's what made this book adorable, for my opinion anyway. This isn't a book that everyone will probably like and frankly, I didn't like it at first because the main character, Greg, is like, totally revolting. But hey, if you just push on reading, you'll eventually like him. In my case, I like him because I can relate to his selfish character. It's a thousand more honest, better and unpretentious version of TFIOS, not that I didn't enjoy the latter but nonetheless, I loved Me and Earl and the Dying Girl more. There's no middle-aged teens in this book who randomly sputter philosophical lines about life and death, and of course, it's funny (though the jokes are lameeee sometimes). One just cannot refuse enjoying a funny book. This book was a roller coaster ride for me. I loved it, then the protagonist got on my nerves, then he was hilarious, then I was sad and amazed as well as frustrated at the same time. I have never read a book that managed to turn around my opinion about it in a matter of pages, multiple times. In the end I have to say, all in all I really enjoyed this book. It is different, quirky, and obnoxious but somehow in a very fitting way. What I really appreciated about it was how genuine it felt after I turned the last page. I can't really describe this in any more detail but it definitely has its very own atmosphere.4.5/5 stars
What do You think about Ich Und Earl Und Das Sterbende Mädchen (2013)?
I needed way more redemption for these characters than this book gives.
