This was a story time book for the baby session. I liked the spin on "If You're Happy and You Know It," though I felt the older kids present really got it more than the time's intended audience (thought both story times always have the same kids, so our librarian can just plan for those kids instead of what the story time description says). The illustrations were bright and colorful, and abstract. The monster motions and noises were fun and silly. A great book for preschoolers to follow along on and toddlers to watch Mommy and Daddy being silly. My two-year-old niece is currently obsessed with monsters and the song "If You're Happy and You Know It" so of course, If You're a Monster and You Know It makes me the coolest Aunt ever! The illustrations are bright and colorful and will engage young readers and they'll for sure what to sing along. The familiar song adds fun new elements like wriggling warts and twitching your tail and young readers will have fun participating in all the moves. The text is easy to read, making this a good pick for storytimes-just be prepared for lots of noise!
This is a kooky little song of a book. It reminded me of of those scratch to make a picture cards.
