Ikes Bluff (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Very good history of Eisenhower and the time that he lived and served in. The discussion of Ike's personality and quirky love of golf became a bit tedious, but the discussion of the budding rivalry between the Soviet Union and the U.S. is really quite insightful. I lived through that period and remember the misconceptions about the accomplishments of the Soviet missile program and the threat that we believed that they posed to the U.S. in the 1950's when, in fact, they had nothing at all like the offensive threat that we believed them to have. This book is very much worth reading for the true kernels of information that it offers, and the tedious repetition of the material on Ike's personality and traits is more than compensated for by the knowledge that one gains of that era from the reading. military industrial complex, play bridge and bluff, win2 avoid3, low turnover, Augusta200, process procedure organization, not make mistakes in a hurry, gentle in manner strong in deed, save face except bridge, write down and pitch those who aggravate, atomic secrets China communists and 100’s in admin fueled McCarthy, military and LBJ used fear to gain funding, where do dominoes end, greatest wars are those not fought, Cuba lacked JFK collaboration and military blame on cia, go to win or not at all.
