I loved this book of course, but I did a stupid thing and read this before Shadow Rising. I kept wondering what they were talking about in referring to Damien in this book, and why the author missed the opportunity to tell us about him and his mate. Finally, almost at the end realized I grabbed the wrong book first. ( I had them all in my night stand ).So I want to take the opportunity to describe why this author did everything right in creating a sequential series, and why most authors often do not. Here the author did not belabor the smart and conscientious reader by forcing them to re-read every detail from m the previous book over again, because someone ( like me ) did not read them in the correct order.Having said that, some details, germane to the specific book I was reading and not the entire series were woven into the book, letting me know something had happened, and giving me some understanding of that. So I read the book, out of sequence but still appreciated the story without having to know all the details of the last book.Because this author is so good at connected, I was more bothered personally asking myself why she would skip over such a rich character like Damien and the Shade Dynasty.Surprise, my bad...but still so good. I picked this one up as a netgalley, having read the book right before this also as a netgalley. I have to say this is a fun series. The characters are original, albeit a little confusing at first. In the beginning the author gives you a breakdown of all the different kinds of Vampires. I kind of just skimmed past it at first but it was nice to have it there just in case I wanted to refer back to it.This story follows the strong willed but very caring dog groomer as she tries to handle the world of Vampires which seems to have fallen at her doorstep. Along the way she finds herself drawn to a man who no one is sure about, which of course makes him all the more attractive. I love a story with a strong give and take between the leads and this one fit the bill. With originality and smart characters I think this series is one you should add to your TBR pile.
