When I picked this story up,it was an author I had no experience with and I had no idea what to expect. The blurb sold me on it alone. The premise of the story drew me in and I wasn't disappointed. The way the lead character is treated, it's a pretty good representation of real life and the way high school can be, or rather the way certain people in high school can be. I liked both characters, especially given that Tessa steps up and goes against the crowd. Very impressed with that fact alone. It was a short story and the only issue I seemed to have with it, was the pacing. Is it possible to fall in love, or at least feel like it's love at that age and in 9 days? Absolutely. All you need to do is talk to a teenager to see that, but it was almost too quick from one instant to another. Not a bad thing though, just would have liked a little bit more to have happened in between say, the first kiss, the i love you and the making love. It was a really great read though. which is why this is 4.5. I really wasn't bothered by the pacing all that much. I'm definitely interested in book two and other works by this author. Glad I found it! Very good story by Red Phoenix. I must point out this is not the normal type of story that I have come to expect from Red Phoenix. Her stories are normally very Erotic. But then we as readers must look at the subject matter these two are first time lovers. Even though this story is not what I expected from Red, I was far from disappointed. This was still a page turner. And still had me waiting to see what would happen. This shows just how cruel teenagers and high school can be when Kevin ( aka - Luke ) disfigured by a fire shows up at a new school. But he is befriended by Tessa and it is young love at first sight. And Tessa finds out really fast who her true friends are. Even thought I personally finished high school years ago, it was really easy to put myself into the mind set of Luke & Tessa. These two were a joy to read about. Looking forward to reading the sequel 9 days and counting.
