Quite enjoyable. Really neat concept. I can't give it quite 4 stars but I'd totally give it 3.5. I am hoping this is a series. It's about a woman who is part of a race of people who have the ability not just to shapeshift into the resemblance of another person, but can study the person and be able to put on their persona. Our heroine takes an easy job to step in to a woman's life to secure an engagement ring from this woman's boyfriend. It doesn't go quite as planned. :) I picked up this book in the hopes of some urban-fantasy-romance; In a Fix didn't disappoint. Detailing the adventures of Aura Adapter, Ciel, as she finds herself trying to rescue her client's fiance, and come to terms with her own romantic feelings, In a Fix is definitely a good choice if you're looking for a fast-paced, humorous read. The storyline is engaging - I mean, a budding romance between human chameleons - what's not to like? And most of all, the author has a way of stringing together conversational sarcasm that had me smiling to myself in amusement. That said, character development is lacking. While the author tries to inject life and some semblance of dimension to her characters, Ciel is frankly yet another mary-sue, complete with red hair and green eyes - yes, an original concoction indeed. Her love interests disappoint as well. There were only brief descriptions of Mark's personality, and oh how absolutely stirring his kisses were, but it certainly didn't feel convincing enough to me. Billy, on the other hand, was a little better developed - perhaps due to the fact that he is obviously the author's intended love interest for Ciel. I really liked the witty banter between Ciel and Billy a lot, and it definitely felt realistic to me, but I'd thought that there really ought to be more substantiation of Billy's notorious exploits. Because well, I'm a suspicious reader by nature. And if you're just going to tell me that Billy has a bad track record with women, I am most certainly NOT going to take you for your word. Overall a lovely and amusing read! Great for rainy dull days if you need a book to perk yourself up. I give this a 3/5.
