Its the most ridiculous book I have ever read and so I didn't finish it. The complete intention of the husband to plan his wife in an affair to get a heir was completely disgusting. This book is nothing but a vile piece of shit! Infidelity is not the only solution of reckless marriage. I think that there could have been a friendship between the Baron and Catherine. Baron could have tried to win the affections of his wife. But the man was so badly damaged that he made it impossible. Catherine could have attempted to give his husband a chance. On the other hand hand it seems like more than love Adam and Catherine lusted for each other. Catherine should suspected his husband's intentions in the beginning as she was married for 7yrs.There was no depth to any of the characters as There was a disconnect with the characters that the author never overcomes. I never quite believed their feelings.It was impossible to get lost in the book and the era.Completely Absurd plot. This just didn't suit me. Adam's character wasn't developed enough for me to connect with him. Whilst I connected with Catherine, I was disappointed in how easily they fell into the Antagonist's trap, once the right match was found. I prefer a story to give more elaboration between the attraction/lust and love. This lacked that for me. I empathized at times with the antagonist, and to further understand his psychosis was caused by abuse and was never helped to overcome that. The complexity if this character is amazing and I am not even sure he belongs in this book. He was let down by the other characters. For me this overshadows any happy ending for the hero and heroine because his ending was so sad.
This story dragged and I wasn't as involved with the characters as I would have liked.
