I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm a sucker for Jean Plaidy books.Oh my....Caroline, whatever will we do with you? When we first meet Caroline, she is a teenager and she pulls off the most outrageous stunts...like pretending she's giving birth in retaliation for not being allowed to attend the ball. The marriage between Caroline and George was set to fail right from the beginning, from the deliberate sabotage of the power hungry Lady Jersey, to the chilly reception of most of the English royal family to Prince George who loathed his wife because he was broke and forced to marry to pay off debts. Oh what a disaster those two are. It is a pity, neither were able to marry those they really wanted. The more George is repulsed by Caroline, the more outrageous and eccentric Caroline becomes. As years go by, it's interesting how Caroline handles the hurt and lack of love she receives but also amazing to read how outlandish and unique she is. I almost couldn't believe it, until I looked up other sources. Jean Plaidy has certainly given Caroline a voice. She is not just the outrageous and eccentric Princess/Queen, she is the distraught, hurt and despised foreigner at court.
