Initiate (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

This book was a little confusing at first & I was not sure I was going to finish the book. It absolutely drives me crazy not to finish a book, though, in case I missed one that turns out to be really good. That was the case with this book. I stuck with it & was glad I did. I flew threw the other books in the series & did not want to put them down. I think the fresh perspective of the characters & the story line that I found difficult to follow at first is what kept me coming back at the end of each book. Thank you for the series... Now back to reading. I cant really put why I didnt like this book into words. I want to love it and part of me does but then I think I am just curious to know what happens with the main girl. Whose name really escapes me as I cant spell.First off, amazing writing. Its pretty good for a book that has a dodgey book cover on amazon.Secondly, the length of the book was above average. YAYY!However, I thought it was far too busy. If you've not read this book prepare for some confusing hours ahead. Theres loads of characters which seem to be wanting to play a part in this. But there are too many that are 'crucial' and not enough background characters with little to do and non recurring roles. The chapters are a big mess. It jumps from one girl to a boy then back to her or another chapter of him and then introduces some other woman with seemingly little relevance... It just makes it hard to follow. Actually the more I write about it, the more I hate this book. The names are just confusing. No simple names like 3 letters or common names. Which would help a) remembering who the heck is who and b) what the heck they do. Just would have been useful for such a complex book.My last point would be that; if it is such a complex book I am a little confused about the point of the book? This I mean the story line, its all very well having that many characters but it takes it away from the book. I have just put it down (shut my kindle off for those picky) and I couldn't tell you what the whole point was. Very little magic interaction, strange words used to describe magic to help confuse readers and detract away from the lack of storyline... I am really slating this book which I actually didn't want to do. It was a nice book but I cant see a point. The author hints at the main girl(begins with D) has a lot of power, but it isn't mentioned really until some exile (I assume future love interest) seems to be in awe of her. Although she uses all her magic saving the other children and poof like a battery shes all done. Like what?? Really want to keep going but I think I've made my point known. Its an OK book in terms of writing, in terms of what I like to read (actual storylines) it just doesnt cut it. It hints but theres just too much flapping about and not enough focus on one or two people. Sad really.

What do You think about Initiate (2000)?

I loved this story and I hated that it was so short. Can't wait to start reading Taboo :)
