My second real venture into the world of audio books (The Harry Potter books don't count because I had already read them). We will see how it goes. Again, I don't want something too heavy or thought provoking, but I still have to like it enough to not get bored and keep going... Just some basic, light, casual reading. 1/4 of the way in and I am having a hard time. I like Dave Barry's reading style well enough, but a lot of the men and women are so cliche it is hard to not get annoyed. Some of the scenarios are funny, albeit over-the-top ridiculous (which I am sure is what he is going for), but some of the scenarios are not funny, they are just upsetting. I will continue on. Screwball comedy. I laughed often and cringed a few times. The end was mostly happy and fairly predictable. Not great literature but great summer reading/listening.Seth hasn't found his niche in the world but he has found a successful, smart, beautiful and somewhat self-absorbed woman, Tina, who is willing to marry him. The story starts with Seth and his not entirely trustworthy groomsmen landing in Miami. It's the night of his bachelor party and not long before the rehearsal dinner and wedding. Of course the men get drunk and in trouble. Things go from awkward to amazingly messy in short order. A python and an orangutan play important roles in the action. Much misadventure in a clash of multiple cultures. There may be some social commentary but I may have been laughing too much to have caught it.
What do You think about Insane City (2013)?
Listened to this while preparing for Xmas. Quite a light hearted read, perfect for summer.
