Rating 2.5I have to admit to being a sucker for time travel stories. I am also discovering that amnesia stories can be interesting--I have read a couple lately. This story has both elements: time travel AND amnesia. I thought the first few chapters establishing the whole time travel thing were not so good and I nearly quit reading. If course, time travel is FICTION but it needs to be believable fiction. I was not totally on board at the beginning. Once the time travel had occurred, the time travel method seemed a little less contrived thereafter. However, I had trouble with the amnesia--it seemed a bit much to throw it in to the story. As a story device, it did not seem credible. That credibility problem didn't clear up. I thought her return of memory was also not very believable--too sudden and contrived.I very much disliked how not-true-to-period the characters spoke even when they were just being themselves (such as saying a book was a "good read"--who says that in 1812?????). I am talking about dialog before the whole time travel thing was revealed. Be that as it may, the story was cute and the characters were likable. I am undecided about whether I want to keep reading the series. This book was fantastic! I was a little wary of the whole time travel aspect, because that isn't usually my cup of tea, but it was so wonderfully done that I couldn't help but love it. The characters were likable. They were well developed and you found yourself feeling along with them. You could picture the looks on their faces or the body language they were using. There were parts that had me so engrossed that I was laughing out loud as I read. The writing style was easy to fall into and the book was just a light, fun, easy read. There was a bit of mystery, some romance, some humor, and all without severe language or graphic sex scenes that push it over the edge. I also really appreciated that everything was tied up nicely at the end. It drives me crazy when a book just ends and you don't feel like you've had closure or still have questions. I was satisfied when I closed the book.I cannot wait for more in this series. It really can't come quickly enough. A book I would definitely read again and again.
