Iron Curtain : The Crushing Of Eastern Europe, 1945-1956 (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
I thought this would be a good follow-up to the excellent Churchill biography I recently finished. I really wanted to like it, and I did glean some interesting new knowledge from it. But most of the time, I'd finish a few pages and have no recollection of what I'd read. The book centers on Hungary, Poland, and Germany, and there are so many unfamiliar names, places, and organizations at play. I really had a hard time keeping track. It's well-written, and I think with a bit more background knowledge, I might get a lot out of it. Maybe I'll pick it up again in the future. This book was a wealth of information on the suppression of Eastern Europe after World War II. It was well sourced and provided excellent background information. For a true lover of history, and this topic, this is a great survey of East Germany, Hungary, and Poland during the aftermath of WWII. That being said, this book has A LOT of information. I would recommend it to only those who have a great interest in the subject. I can be a bit tedious reading at times.
What do You think about Iron Curtain : The Crushing Of Eastern Europe, 1945-1956 (2012)?
I'm getting rid of any ironic DDR merchandise I ever owned. PS Russia, eh.

Alternatingly dry and fascinating, still an excellent read.
