Jenny Pox (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

This is a very creative book....touches of mean girls....high school drama...bullying....self esteem issuesYou feel for Jenny immediately in this story and through out...she is very likable even if she has the touch of deathOkay...Ashleigh is freaking crazy...CRAZY!!! She wants to stab people and torture them and then have Seth heal them....Crazy!! With all the things she does during this book....she is the devil! I cannot believe that Ashleigh convinced the town to do what they did to Seth and Jenny....she just used them so she could do the rest.Seth :(Wow...Jenny meets Carrie...only much more extreme...I guess if you go your whole life with no one and finally find the one and it's all taken away from you...this will flip a switchVery descriptive...Jenny :(JK...lolHappy :) Synopsis: Eighteen-year-old Jenny Morton has a horrific secret: her touch spreads a deadly supernatural plague, the "Jenny pox." She lives by a single rule: Never touch anyone. A lifetime of avoiding any physical contact with others has made her isolated and painfully lonely in her small rural town. Then she meets the one boy she can touch, and her life begins to change. Jenny feels herself falling for him, but first Jenny must learn to use the deadly pox inside her to confront her new enemy, a girl who secretly wields the most dangerous power of all.Me: I absolutely loved this. At first I wondered why there was an 18 certificate on this story as the first few chapters chronicle Jenny’s early years. But then the real story kicks in. Jenny has a supernatural power she doesn’t understand. For some reason she gives a deadly plague to anyone she touches even managing to kill her own mother in childbirth. Her school arch-nemesis Ashleigh seems to be able to make everyone fall in love with her. Eventually Jenny hooks up with Ashleigh’s boyfriend Seth who turns out to be the only person she can touch without killing. As the story continues we see that all three have superpowers – Ashleigh can spread love and bend anyone to her will through this and Seth can heal anything. One thing I enjoyed is that none of them know why they have these abilities or if anyone else has a power. The final showdown is excellent. A truly bonkers event that makes Carrie seem a bit boring. The horror is ramped up the more the story continues and it’s not often I’m grossed out but I really wouldn’t want to actually see the damage done when Jenny goes into full meltdown. One tiny quibble. I liked the (almost) ending, I liked that the reader finally got an explanation if where these powers came from but I wasn’t overly keen on the ‘happy’ final ending. I can’t say anymore without actually spoiling it. However as there is a sequel I can see why the ending is the way it is. I’m probably in the minority with that one though. It’s a very well written book, it flows fast and it’s a book that’s hard to put down. It’s not for the faint hearted but if you enjoy horror then go for it. I highly recommend it.

Is it just me or is the description actually really similar to Shatter me by Tahera Mafi?
