Joanne Fluke's Lake Eden Cookbook: Hannah Swensen's Recipes From The Cookie Jar (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I was a huge fan of this series until about installment #14, but I was excited to see all the series recipes together in one book. The characters you love return also, however there is no murder and mahem, albeit mystery in this, just very short 1-2 pages of dialog between the characters and it usually revolves around the recipes that follow. Will making some of the cookies again, and I'll also be trying some of the new ones. Reading the short interacations made me think I may want to return to the Cookie Jar again, and I hope the love triangle (the reason I stopped reading) has been resolved.* I also really enjoyed the listing of "substitutions" in the back, and some of them I have never heard of. Nice conversion chart also. This cookbook takes all of the recipes from the first 15 or so books in the series and adds a few more to make a really nice cookbook loaded with cookie and dessert recipes (as well as a few others like chicken salad and lobster bisque). Another nice feature is that it has a short story woven throughout so our favorite Lake Eden characters are experiencing the cookbook with us. I really like that idea. Only problem for me is that it contained some information that I hadn't come across yet as I have not read the whole series before picking up the cookbook, so if you are reading the series consider this as your spoiler alert...LOL. The nice thing is that you don't have to read the series to enjoy the recipes. I am eager to try some of them and definitely want to add this cookbook to my collection... maybe for Christmas?
