This book had a lot of promise. Jade is hiding in a small town occupied by shifters, an artsy college and a lot of lay lines. She runs a game store and spends her time hoping that her psychotic ex doesn't find her. Unfortunately, after the opening chapter or two, where the game store is described in loving detail, the writing quickly moves onto almost a bullet point version of writing. We get told what happened, but none of it really flows from the story. The book could have really benefited from doubling the length, fleshing out the magic of the world, the characters and the story.spoiler>I was really annoyed by the ending chapter, as I didn't pick up enough interest from Alec to go from "You're a murderer" to "Let's hop in bed right now". A pause on mild interest and dating would have been really nice. However, while the story would have benefited greatly from more length, there's enough there that I'll give book two a shot. Found a new series!A nerdy, gaming sorceress! What's not to like! I'm not a big gamer more of an outskirts kinda one, but reading about gamers and hearing them make life and game comparisons thrills me, even if I don't why half of what they mean. I liked how the story unfolded, pretty quick and lots of action. The family Jade has created is fun and quirky. I will continue this series. I am definitely recommending. Headed to amazon now to but the next three in the series. Please don't let me down, Jade!P.S Four stars because it ended at 83%.
What do You think about Justice Calling (2000)?
Ok story, but it is poorly edited and some background on the characters would be nice...

Enjoyable. Characters and plot were solid. Would be interested in reading more.

This wasn't awful but it was about half as long as I expected.
