Justice League Dark, Vol. 3: The Death Of Magic (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

Not quite as good as the previous volume, this is still one of the better New 52 titles. Even though the skeleton of the plot for the first half of the volume isn't very strong (magic versus science in an alternate world), it does allow for most of the characters to shine (John Constantine being unable to lie is one of the funniest things I've seen in the DC universe), although a couple (namely Black Orchid and Amethyst), get short shrift. The second half of the volume is a separate story, featuring Doctor Destiny and guest starring the Flash and Swamp Thing. Swamp Thing works well in this environment, but amazingly, Flash is even better suited to it, and his interactions with the Dark team are wonderful. The story here is a bit stronger, though not a whole lot, but again it's all about the characters, and Frankenstein and Deadman in particular get the spotlight here. Deadman's discovery about the House of Mystery actually made me grin when I read it. So yeah, the stories aren't the strongest in this collection, but the characterizations are spot on; this is what the Justice League Dark team should be like. Maybe a little more focus on some of the B Characters, just because they deserve to be brought to life as wonderfully as the A characters were here. Volume 3 "Death of the Magic" starts were the previous left off,Zatanna and Tim Hunter have vanished into another dimension and now Constantine and his crew are trying to find a way to get them back. When Volume 2 ended with a cliffhanger I was exited about Volume 3 but in the end I was left disappointed, this volume isn't as strong and fun as the previous but still enjoyable if you're like the series and the characters. This volume is parted into two separate storylines even though both them are ok-ish it would be better if the whole volume was one big arc.I'll avoid talking about the two arcs and concentrate about the things I didn't like(Spoiler warning...duh!!)1)When Black Ostrich,Frankenstein and that blonde princess which I can't remember her name...no wait was it Amy? any way when they enter Constantine's House of Mystery(even thought he told them that it was dangerous and they might get lost there forever)they end up being chased by skeletons and hungry flesh eating bugs until they find they way out but while they do Black Ostrich finds a room were Constantine kept notes about the Justice league and other super powered people I thought that detail would play a significant role on the story but it didn't at all.2)Next up I'm still trying to find out why Argus is helping Constantine I mean they cought the bad guys they should have left already and yet they trying to find two people that are not-so important to them, maybe they wanted to get all the Magic Books? 3)I really didn't like how the first arc ended,I expected everything to go to hell and our heroes barely get back to earth alive and I also expected some major character to die but OH NO the arc concluded with the lamest ending possible, everything is fine, everyone is alive and we all lived happy afterwards....I mean come on even the second arc which I didn't liked that much had a better ending, after all it's called Justice League DARK.4)Madame Xanadu is the worst mother of the year, apparently she thinks by having a kid that will turn evil in the future the best way to handle the situation is to abadont it and let it turn evil any way.5)The Flash appearing in the second arc was cool but unnecessary at the same time,he didn't play an important role or anything.
