Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination That Changed America Forever (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
In the days before the internet and the 24 hour news cycle, few historical accounts of major events captured the key moments on an hour-by-hour basis. "Killing Lincoln" is different. Bill O'Reilly and historian Martin Dugard have given us an account of the key events leading up to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the subsequent search and killing of his assassin.I think that most historians would agree that the Lincoln assassination changed American history forever. The reconciliation of north and south was delayed as Lincoln's successor, Andrew Johnson, pursued a more aggressive policy towards the south--almost one of retribution instead of reconciliation. If you don't care about the debate of the assassination's impact, I encourage you to read "Killing Lincoln" anyway. It's a thriller that's tough to put down. For some reason I totally forgot that I had read this earlier this year. In a total cliche I remembered I read it in a dream. LOL. I did like the way this read. It read just like a novel, and I liked that the ending had an update of the main characters of the time. Bill O'Reilly even discussed some of the conspiracies dealing with the assassination which was pretty cool. Lincoln is my favorite president, and this book was great...or rather, as a history major, I didn't want to punch the author for being awful. This were cited well enough to my liking etc.
What do You think about Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination That Changed America Forever (2011)?
