King Of The Dead (Jeremiah Hunt Chronicle) - Plot & Excerpts
Police cars lined either side of the curb, and there were two white City of New Orleans vans in the small parking lot. A uniformed officer stood watch by the front door while several men and women in civilian clothing went in and out, carrying cases of equipment in each hand. “Don’t stop!” she said to Dmitri, and he did as he was asked, gliding past their former base of operations without slowing. Farther down the street, he pulled over to the side of the road and parked in such a way as to allow them to watch what was happening back at the clinic through the rearview mirrors. “They must have been watching us the whole time,” Dmitri said and Denise figured he was right. How else would that FBI agent have been there right at the moment they were stealing a national treasure? The question was not were they being watched, but rather how much did they know? And more importantly, did they already have Hunt? Just then she spotted a familiar face among the crowd of onlookers. Rolling down her window, she waved him over.
