#3 in the Sun Valley Sheriff Walt Fleming series.Sheriff Walt Fleming manages to foil a plot to kidnap a courier and steal the briefcase he is guarding. The case contained 3 bottles of wine scheduled for auction with a reserve price of $800K. While the law awaits a follow-up attack, a second plot is underway to highjack a business jet. Accidently aboard the jet is the owner's daughter and Walt's nephew Kevin. We used to read a lot of Ridley Pearson's crime novels, but then he switched to writing novels for young readers and our supply dried up. We picked this one up on spec on a sale table at Coles (the same day we bought Doctorow's LITTLE BROTHER). It is part of the series set in Sun Valley area of southern Idaho and featuring sheriff Walt Fleming. This one involves a gang of thieves with plans to steal three bottles of very expensive wine from an auction being held in Sun Valley. A fun light read. We finished the last 100 pages in a marathon afternoon of reading. We picked up the sequel, IN HARM'S WAY, at the library yesterday. (This one seems to have a tie-in with Lou Boldt, the Seattle homicide detective who was featured in a number of Ridley's books from an earlier series.)
Great easy-to-read murder mystery for a vacation, and I love the setting of Sun Valley.
