soooo maybe i checked this out from the library because it mentioned crushing on a stepbrother and i had just finished rewatching clueless and i was on a paul rudd high. and despite not reading the first book, i figured it would be easy to catch up. i'm not sure if reading the first book would've made me like this more, but ok, here's the thing: they're? in? 9th grade?? that was honestly the most unbelievable part of it. not the fact that the stepfather didn't notice his son and stepdaughter sleeping in the same bed in the morning. or the fact that the book could even end on a HOPEFUL NOTE SINCE THEY KIND OF LIVE TOGETHER AND THERE IS NO CHANCE OF THEM ACTUALLY BEING TOGETHER LIKE COME ON I WAITED ALL BOOK FOR YOU TO CONVINCE ME THAT IT COULD WORK BUT IT CAN'T. it was that they were in 9th grade, which did make it believable when they had their dumb little fight that "broke them up" or w/e, but geez louise go focus on the trials and tribulations of freshman year not whether it's okay to date your stepbrother/best friend's ex-bf/notorious womanizer. and stop using the word "slut" to describe the dude, that's just wrong on too many levels Although I was a bit disappointed about the direction this book took, it was okay. To sum it up, this is the sequel to "If We Kiss", a novel that depicts the crazy life of 15 year old Charlie, who has started a secret romantic relationship with her step brother Kevin. "Kiss Me Again" starts up right where we left off, with Charlie in Kevin's arms, which is pretty much the whole story. Aside from a few details such as: George is now Charlie's unofficial ex boyfriend, so he is cut from the story completely after that, and Charlie has a job at a coffee shop. Following that dilemma, there is the drama with her best friend Tess, who is still quite angry at her for hooking up with Kevin. Throughout the story, when Charlie isn't wrapped up in Kevin, she is with Tess, who has quite the jealous watch over Charlie. There are many times in the story (I won't go into grave detail) when Tess pushes, and questions Charlie about her life, and tries to break the bond between her and Kevin. It is never said wether Tess knows about Charlie and Kevin's relationship, or wether or not she was lying about Kevin kissing another girl when he was with Charlie. These are things that I wish had been addressed, instead of so many 3am make out sessions. Don't get me wrong, they were awesome in the sense that it reminded me of my 15 year old love, but I could've had less for more depth in the story. All in all, I felt as if I might have liked this book when I was younger. I decided to read this book because I had fallen in love with "If We Kiss" when I was nine, so I got immensely excited when I noticed a sequel. I felt that the story should have focused more on other problems and developments, other than just Kevin. I understand that he was the whole of the problems in her life, and I'm glad she solved the problem. However, the story felt like it didn't have a point at some times. For that ladies and gentleman, I give this book 3 (almost 2) stars. It was adorable, youthful, memorable, and funny, but definitely not America's next great teen-novel-hits-big-screen.
What do You think about Kiss Me Again (2012)?
I cant get over this ending. It is so infuriating.
