Kiss Me Deadly: 13 Tales Of Paranormal Love (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

13 tales of Paranormal Love. Some of these are great, while others are just weird. 1)‘The Assassin’s Apprentice’ by Michelle Zink. 3 stars. Rose is hunting a demon that killed her family. The demon is hunting her because she’s a Descendant. And an assassin, Asher is trying to protect her from the demon while killing it also. Who win’s. 2)‘Errant’ by Dianna Peterfreud. 0.5 of the Killer Unicorns series. 1 star. I couldn’t finish it. Too corny. A unicorn hunter with a pet unicorn who travels around conducting fake unicorn rituals for young maidens soon to be married. 3)‘The Spirit Jar’ by Karen Mahoney. 0.7 of the Moth series. 3 stars. Moth is sent to England to retrieve a book for her master, but a half Djinn young man want’s it also. 4)‘Lost’ by Justine Musk. 5 stars. A modern Hades and Persephone story. A young girl whose best friend is in a coma starts taking lessons from a strange neighbor in how to communicate with the dead. 5)‘The Spy Who Never Grew Up’ by Sarah Rees Brennan. 1 star. Peter Pan is hired by the Queen of England to be her spy and as his payment he is given the 3X great granddaughter of Wendy. 6)‘Dungeons of Langeais’ by Becca Fitzpatrick. A Hush Hush story. 2 stars. It is 24 hours before Cheshvan and after 200 years of fealty to a dark angel, Chauncey plots revenge for the deception that sealed his fate. I loved the series, but this is just too dark and wrong. 7)‘Behind the Red Door’ by Cailin Kittredge. 1 star. Two bored HS girls dare a friend to investigate an old abandoned house. I didn’t finish this. 8)‘Hare Moon’ by Carrie Ryan. 0.5 of the Forest of Hands and Teeth series. 4 stars. Reviewed as a separate book. Please refer to that. 9)‘Familiar’ by Michelle Rowen. 5 stars. Reviewed as a separate book. Please refer to that. 10)‘Fearless’ by Rachel Vincent. 2 Stars. A troubled teen is sent from an abusive foster home to state group home after a ‘misunderstanding’ with the courts. What they don’t know is that she’s a mara: a parasitic empath that feeds on people’s nightmares. Very dark, troubling story. 11)‘Vermillion’ by Daniel Marks. 2 stars. 1.5 of the Velveteen series. Odd. Something about an underworld where the citizens live the opposite of the living. There’s a team that has been hired to find a missing ‘undertaker’ who may or may not have something to do with a shadow quake. 12 ‘The Hounds of Ulster’ by Maggie Stiefvater. 1 star. Two 17 year olds play Irish punk music in DC. One has named his guitar Cu Chulainn which means the hound of Ulster. The other gets swept up by the false promises of ‘them’. 13)‘Many Happy Returns’ by Daniel Waters. Part of the Generation Dead series. 2 stars. Five teens are killed in a car accident and their parents hope they come back as: differently biotic people. I had high hopes for this book seeing as I read The Eternal Kiss: 13 Vampire Tales of Blood and Desire. It was quite good and had a few sad stories even, which I have to say i was not expecting, which made me want to continue to read the book even more to see what creative adventures the authors would make. I do wish that a couple wasn't so short but alas every story must end at one point or risk loosing the pull of interest it contains.
