Knits For Nerds: 30 Projects: Science Fiction, Comic Books, Fantasy (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
Knits for Nerds: 30 Projects: Science Fiction, Comic Books, Fantasy, by Joan O Dark, aka Tomi Carr; Andrew McNeel Publishing. What knitter doesn’t get tired of the same old patterns? Carr offers a fun mix of knitwear taken straight from the pages of comics, sci-fi and fantasy literature. Doesn’t everyone know someone who needs a pair of Hobbit Slippers? Knits for Nerds includes a variety of costumes, game boards, and toys. Carr’s well detailed index is complete with photos of knitting techniques and abbreviations showing a variety of techniques blocking and i-cord to instructions detailing how to pick up stitches. Recommended for adventurous knitters. Just the cover of this upcoming knitting book had me clamoring to pick it up. What better then to mix star wars and knitting. Luckily Knits for Nerds goes way beyond just Star Wars. The book is divided into sections such as Fantasy, Comics and Magna, and Science Fiction. Here you will find projects like Hobbit Feet Slippers (fake hair included), dragon rider gloves, and my personal favorite the Star Trek: the Next Generation sweater. Patterns Range from easy to hard, and even if you don’t know how to knit, you will want to pick up the book just to browse through. Who knows, maybe we can get all our geeks and nerds together and pass on an age old craft that requires quite a bit of math.

Cool idea, disappointing patterns. You'll have much better luck with the free patterns on Ravelry.

Lots of fun to look at, but I don't think I'll be knitting anything from it.
