Plot summary: The House of Night series... WITH TUTUS.This book had me at "ballet" and utterly lost me at "You're not like other girls".Though the plot supposedly revolves around 15-year-old Vanessa Adler (Bella Swan in pointe shoes) and her attempt to find her missing sister, 90% of the book is filled with a not-so-healthy obsession for the cliched, tall-dark-and-mysterious Zeppelin Gray (ZEPPELIN. SERIOUSLY). As such, I shall write my review around him as well.Zep is a douche. As we read it is obvious we are supposed to fall in love with him and to find him the epitome of sexiness, but... no. Just no. Zep:1. Breaks up with his girlfriend for no apparent reason, in a classical "she was too much like other girls" move2. Is emotionally and physically abusive ("violent kiss"? WHAT?) towards Vanessa3. Is the only thing Vanessa and her friends seem to talk about (though sometimes they remember people are going missing). This is problematic not only to their character development (which is zero) but also because at one point Blaine (stereotypical gay friend) tells Vanessa not to take Zep for granted. What?! She spends half the book wondering if they are dating or not!!!Suddenly there's a supernatural plot twist. I don't even know what that was. What redeems this book: I liked Justin. In all the paranormal YA books I've read, I don't remember one of the male protagonists telling the main character to pull her head out of her ass and that not everyone is in love with her (I just wish HE was not. Once again, too predictable). Also, *SPOILER ALERT* Zep turns out to be the prick I always thought he was, and that's why I gave this book two stars instead of one.But alas, it's not enough to get me to read the sequel.
