La Flotte Perdue - Victorieux (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
If I just review the writing you'll get the impression that I didn't like this book or the series, but nothing could be further from the truth. The writing isn't the best, but I really enjoyed the book and the series. This is an interesting ride and a good conclusion to the series. I'm glad I listened to it (audio book). The end drags a little and sometimes the "Admiral" is a little too set on the right path, but that's not what this book or series is about. This is about leadership and the "long retreat". What is the answer when it seems hopeless? What is the motivation of your enemy? Campbell does a great job of answering those questions with an insight into the modern navy's military minds. I enjoyed this and recommend it to you. If you want classic literature don't come looking here, but if your after a good read and an insight into the military's idealized mind, this is for you. I recommend this book. The 6 books in this series (the lost fleet) could probably be compressed into two or three books. Each paperback is about 300 pages long, but it feels that much less is happening in each book than the number of pages would suggest. The strategic parts and the description of battles near light speed are really thought provoking, fun, and easily the best part of the series. On the other hand, the characters (with a few exceptions) are poor, and the romantic subplots are even worse. The author's idea of relationship seems to be two people shouting "you will never understand me!" at each other, and that is not fun to read at all.It would also be nice to have an empathetic enemy in the series. All the antagonists are either single-mindedly evil, facelessly doing their job, or secretly wishing they could side with the protagonist.I enjoyed books 1, 5 and 6 the most, since they depart from the "win battle-fight with romantic interest-win battle-fight with romantic interest" pattern of the other books.
What do You think about La Flotte Perdue - Victorieux (2010)?
A satisfying conclusion to the original six book "Lost Fleet" series, and a good set up for the "Lost Fleet: Beyond The Frontier" series that follows. [CAUTION: SPOILERS AHEAD] With 100 pages to go, Geary defeats the last of the Syndic flotillas and finally gets his lost fleet back to Alliance space. With 30 pages to go Geary defeats the invading fleet of the enigma race of aliens and sends them packing. In the last 30 pages...what, you want me to tell you everything??

Great end to the first part of the series.
