La Scuola Dei Giochi Segreti (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I've seen many a Lifetime movie, but they didn't quite prepare me for this. The ick factor of the relationship between a middle aged, female teacher (mother and wife) and a 16 year old boy really creeped me out. I suppose the writing was okay, and the characters, for all in intents and purposes, were well-fleshed out. Page by page I grew increasingly more uncomfortable, so kudos to the author if that was the intention. For whatever reason, I couldn't turn away, and found myself rather engaged for the entirety of the book. Call me crazy, but I get a thrill out of reading or watching shows about taboo topics. (50 shades of grey definitely sucked, though!) Last year, I was awestruck by Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma. I found that book utterly beautiful. I also read Lolita, last year, which I also found amazing. While I did feel engaged with this one, I didn't connect with either of the characters (thank goodness, right?). I'm really struggling with rating it.....Final thoughts: A good book if you like that not so fresh, dirty bird feeling......I'm just not sure that's the take away feeling I want from any story. It's always nice after having a run of 'okay' books to suddenly find yourself reading one you can't put down. This follows the 'romance' of fortysomething Judy and her sixteen year old paramour Zach. It's a bit of a Lolita with the sexes swapped and I'm sure it will have readers divided in much the same way. Is Judy a maneater or just a neglected wife desperate for affection from anyone? Is Zach being molested or a less than innocent horny young man? Coming from a country where nothing illegal is happening, it's the moral side of the relationship between a teenager and a teacher that has me thinking. This book is going to be one of those I mull over for some time to come.
What do You think about La Scuola Dei Giochi Segreti (2011)?
It was an interesting read up to the end. It finished idiotically. Oh well. Off to the next book.

It wasn't too bad. Nothing spectacular. I was expecting more.
