Lady Catherine And The Real Downton Abbey (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
If you like the Downton Abbey TV series, you'll probably like the book at least somewhat. If not, you might not. Pretty simple. This book is the story of the generation who were 40 or 50-something years old around the time of the Second World War, so post-Downton times. There's no great writing here, & the Earl & his wives are kind of cringe-worthy from time to time, but it's all amusing enough if you look at it in a light-hearted way. I'd love to hear more about the children who were housed at Highclere during World War II & what they thought of the place & the experiences they had there. Totally enjoyed this book and in February 2014 I also got to meet the author. If you like Downton Abbey you will enjoy this book. It takes place at Highclere castle (the castle used in Downton Abby) and the story is based on diarys, scrapebooks, and guestbooks in the castle archives. This book takes you through world war II and how it changed so many lives. The characters are based on individuals living at the castle during that time.
