Russell Freedman is really a master of re-telling history. This time the Marquis de Lafayette is his topic and I loved learning the fascinating story of this Revolutionary hero. The tale is interspersed with lots of pictures (as Freedman is wont to do), and the narrative is sprinkled with great anecdotes that really helped me come to understand the man better. I highly recommend this one to anybody looking for a quick read about the American Revolution. Russell Freeman's another great historical account, the book depicts Lafayette, the Frenchman with strong aspirations for liberty and freedom, helpled the Continental Army win the Revolution. He joined the American cause against all odds before the French committed themselves to help the colonists, who were outnumbered and were in great disadvantage at the beginning of the war. More than a hundred places in the United States were named after this man. I believe reading this book helps me understand the international spirit in this man.
Anothger exceptionally written, handsomely illustrated historical biography from Russell Freedman.
