I enjoyed this book for many reasons. One of the reasonings being the main character was able to take care of her self, and although she had her flaws she still had the hero aspect in her. I liked the plot twists, and even thought the book was some what predictable and a little to repetitive of other ya dystopias storyline a, it was a good read. My only complaint was the stupid love relationship, I mean really, was it needed ? Really good debut novel from Bethany Hagen... I enjoyed it quite a bit. The book is a young adult book set in the future... a future where the earth has been permanently changed by global warming, America has been attacked and partially taken over by the east, and where the privileged ruling class inflicts endless pain and suffering on the lower class. The book is also set in Kansas City, which I personally enjoyed quite a bit. (Also, the author of the book is a librarian at my library... so I enjoyed that connection as well.)Many aspects of the book reminded me of The Hunger Games, and similar to The Hunger Games the plot is fast moving and engaging. The futuristic world that Hagen builds throughout the story keeps the reader's imagination working, while the characters she builds keep the pages turning. Also, similar to the Hunger Games I've read that Hagen is writing a sequel... which I'm looking forward to reading when it comes out.
