Lash (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Lash has fallen, and now has one chance to earn his place back in Heaven. Little did he know that his reason for falling would also be his way to salvation. Protecting Naomi Duran is the only way he will ever find peace again after living among the mortals, wallowing in self pity, and falling victim to sins of the flesh. However, protecting her turns out to not be so easy when, not only does he fall for her, but he realizes who is on his trail.Lash is an interesting take on the idea of fallen angels and them earning their way back into God's graces. L.G Castillo does and interesting job of creating twist and turns, giving the character's depth, and leaving you with something to look forward to in the future books. The characters not only have otherworldly challenges, but personal challenges to face as they move through the story. The story does have a slow start. As common with a lot of first books of a series, there is a lot of buildup and working on establishing the "world" the author is trying to portray. However, Castillo does a good job of keeping the story progressing through the buildup. As the book continues, the pace does pick up and become more action packed, making it hard to put the book down.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in paranormal romance. It has a good foundation and I am looking forward to reading the other books of the series. I rarely find it difficult to review a book but with this I find myself stumbling a little. It wasn't that the story wasn't any good. Angel takes events into his own hands, get punished, then reassigned to make up for his error, falls in love, has big bust up with good & evil. You have the Archangels, Guardian Angels, and Seraphin. So storyline it was good but... to me it lacked the passion, the depth, the vavavoom that makes you keep turning the pages until you've finished. This to me feels like a first draft, the bare bones that you build upon. It was frustrating because I wanted it to be so much better. I loved the idea, the dog, the idea of the characters. It can also be read as a standalone which always appeals to me - except I won't be reading the next one. I always feel bad when a book doesn't grab me as I know how much work it takes. It took me 4 days to read - a tell-tale sign boo
