Lazy Daisy, Cranky Frankie: Bedtime On The Farm (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
This rhyming farm tome is a bit of fun and laughs. It’s told from the farmer’s perspective, and each animal exhibits behavior uncharacteristic for its species: dancing chicken and narcissistic pig, among others. The tale ends happily when the only thing the farm animals get right is sleeping. The title is visually pleasing, especially for younger readers. Oversized animals frolic in brightly colored settings. Many sight gags abound for sharp eyes. The short lines and uncomplicated verse will be easily picked up by pre-readers. It would be an ideal bedtime read and fun to share with an adult. It would also be a good addition to farm units for Pre-K and K classes. This book was entertaining but very short, its almost like the author couldn't put together a proper ending and just finished the story. There are a few farm animals that are introduced in the story, so you could use this story if you were doing a lesson plan on farm animals. Also the animals in the story don't act like 'regular' farm animals so you could ask the children what the animal should really be doing.
