Brilliant story. Brilliant end to the series.Connor was written in a more sensitive manner than you would have expected. It gave his character another dimension. A hard warrior, a leader to make sacrifices for the clan, a son not credited much by his late father and much unhappiness from the memory of his parents marriage. For a supposingly smart chieftain, he's quite an idiot when it comes to matters of the heart. In parts he also appeared selfish by wanting Ilysa to sacrifice so much. Partly he was oblivious to her doing so much for him. And then later he fell to put himself in her shoes until she asked him back how would he feel to share her. such a man. He really does have faults. Ilysa is a complicated woman, wise and competent beyond her age. She's selfless but strong and had great instincts in protecting Connor. I believe in the saying: A strong man is backed by a strong woman.it's potrayed really well that she ia the balm to his soul, her soft touch heals him and her belief in him gives him strength. Like Ilysa was made for him.The scene where he has to come meet her at "neutral ground" was brilliantly set up. It was the ultimate test if he would listen to his heart and trust she would never betray him. It was the ultimate answer to Ilysa. And finally it resolved the long battle between Connor's clan and her grandfather. I especially love when she declared she's with child.. so clever.I secretly hope there's a spin off from their children- the next generation. would love to read of Ian's redheaded twins, Moira's children.. wishful thinking but it would be awesome since we knew them when they were wee.. Connor has much to contend with, rebuilding his clan and as chieftain it is his duty to protect his lands from rival clans determined to take over his lands, seek revenge and marry for the good of his clan. Ilysa the sister of one of his most trusted warriors and someone he would trust with his life, gift of sight is most valuable when seeking a marriage alliance. Unfortunately she is a lass of common birth and cannot help restore the clan to its former glory. Yet Connor and Ilysa find themselves wanting only each other and when the time comes for Connor to take a proper wife Ilysa will have to decide if she is strong enough to let the chieftain go so he can do what is best for their clan.I have been waiting for Connor, every reader of highlander romances loves to read about the laird. Connor and Ilysa had history so it was nice to see their story. This was a sweet read, about the foolishness of an arrogant Laird who thinks he knows best and the person Ilysa, who has really been holding his households down for years while he and his men have been rebuilding the clan. There are a lot of little plots and interesting twists along the lines of, you are not the father. Overall I enjoyed it.Mrs. Mallory recently asked readers on her facebook page what they wanted from her, if they wanted another highlander romance or a new historical romance start…The response was overwhelmly for highlander, so I would say people are loving the series.

I really liked this one. Out of the whole series, I think this one is my favorite.
