I am soooo in love with this series! Not only did it REALLY keep me company while I was laid up in bed with this crud, but they characters are doing things that I have always wanted to do. Things I have ALWAYS been fascinated by. I've always been on the fence about these things though because, really I don't know how to look at it. whats right and wrong. But looking at it from the books perspective, Kendall really has these abilities and she uses them for good. To help people and earth bound spirits. Though, the things that Kendall's mother has been taught, well, I have been kinda taught too. I mean, no one has ever came right out and told me you are not supposed to get involved with psychics or things that are paranormal, its always just kinda been understood. But then again, I also feel like if things like psychics and ghosts exist (and I do totally believe they do) then just like everything else, there can be a good side and a bad side. So yes, I TOTALLY believe in ghosts. And I think it would be AWESOME to go on a investigation or be part of a ghost hunters team! Though, I have never had the opportunity. I have never known a psychic, met one, or talked to one. But I do think that there is probably a place for them in this world and if they are here, well there abilities must be God given and it is not for us to judge. So now that I have gotten all that out of my system, let me tell you some about the book. In this book, things are really starting to come together for Kendall. She is learning more about her abilities and word is getting around about the Ghost Huntresses. Their first case is REALLY awesome! As they help a family find their lost loved one. And no I don't mean lost as in he has passed away, but that its true, what I am talking about though is that his body has literally been misplaced! Can you imagine! HOW COOL!! But as they begin to investigate this case, there is another spirit present. A soldier, and he is very angry. They sidestep him for now and are able to speak with the spirit of the man they are trying to locate. But this will not be the last they see of this soldier. While everyone in the community is coming to love Kendall and the Ghost Huntresses for all the aid they are giving to those who need it, there is one person who is not happy about Kendall and her new found abilities. Courtney Langdon. She is supposed to be the most popular girl in school, she is the head cheerleader after all! She is supposed to be dating the hottest guy (which happens to be Jason Tillson), and he is now with Kendall too. Her jealousy beings to bubble over and she starts to make Kendall's school life really hard, calling her Ghost Girl and ever spilling her food on her on purpose. Things come to a head when they are assigned to be partners in their physiology class. They actually have to work together, and Courtney is not going to make it easy. Taking some advice from Loreen, Kendall gives Courtney a book on understanding psychic abilities, thinking that if she understands whats going on with her that she will be a little more understanding. WRONG!!!Kendall tries her best to make the best of things and not let Courtney get to her. She has other things to worry about, like the doctors visit and tests that she promised her mother she would go through to confirm that her abilities are actually real and not some medical problem. But even with that hanging over her, she is also trying to just be a regular teenager. She tries to have a normal night out with her friends and boyfriend, but a ghost has another idea and it turns into an unexpected investigation at the bowling alley. Courtney and her friends are there and she is not one bit happy as once again, the attention is turned to Kendall. With info about Kendall's abilities in her hand, now Courtney can pretend that she has them as well! And she really tries and for a while, it gets her the attention that she is looking for. Until Kendall and her friends learn how she is receiving information and set out to prove to everyone that she is faking. In front of the whole cafeteria, they prove her to be a fraud, so the gig is up, and once again every one's focus lands back on Kendall instead of Courtney. Halloween is coming up and there is a big party planned at Stephanie Crawford's house and everyone is invited. Kendall is even going to be giving readings there as a favor to her new friend. Just as the party is starting to get good, Courtney takes a group to the study and begins to hold a seance. Not only does she try to contact the spirits, but despite Kendall's warnings and efforts to stop her from holding the seance at all, Courtney invites the spirits to use her to communicate. And there the soldier is waiting to jump inside of her and push her aside. The soldier oppresses Courtney and though they think that he has left her when Loreen and Father Mass show up, it was only temporary. He continues to control her and make her do things that she wouldn't normally do and it seems only Kendall and her team can make this right, or can they? As things start to get worse with Courtney, they start doing their research. Will they be able to rid Courtney of this angry spirit? Will they succeed in helping him find the light and move on from this world to his final resting place? Well I'm not telling. But I will tell you that I like the first, I totally LOVED this book!! I loved it so much that I decided I couldn't wait for the next one to come in the mail and immediately grabbed my nook and bought all the rest that were available for it. It was almost a blessing that I was sick because I got to lay around and read non stop. Oh yea! And it was a good thing because I don't think I could have stopped myself if I had wanted to! I think I liked this one better than the first in the Ghost Huntress series. Kendall finally finds her own voice and becomes confident in her abilites both normal and paranormal. There is enough action to keep the pages turning, conflicts between her mother and boyfriend to get sorted out as well as making friends with cheerleader who previously made her life hell. It doesn't hurt that the cheerleader is possessed by a spirit and Kendall helps to expell him. This series is just wonderfully scripted and should pull in girls of all ages. I think that this is probably safe for any teen, especially those recultant readers. There is just some kissing and exploring that is safely put to a stop by her ghost mentor, Emily. I can't wait for the next one in May, 2010.
What do You think about Le Guide (2000)?
