Lead With A Story: A Guide To Crafting Business Narratives That Captivate, Convince, And Inspire (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I loved this book! It's written by a P&G'er and is LOADED with stories about Cincinnati and Cincy companies, which is super-cool!After reading this I now KNOW Stories are the perfect medium for leading and success. Our lives are so busy and our attention span so short that a great story is essential, it's just one of those things that you never really catch unless you're looking for one. It just all sort of "happens" and you can tell a good leader or presentation from a bad one with the story. After reading this book, I got the chance to be a part of and listen to some awesome presentations like TED talks and work presentations, and the ones that stood out had a story. They were memorable because the audience remembered the STORY.I can't recommend this enough if you want to be any kind of leader, stories are essential and this book puts you in that frame of mind to create and hone your stories. I listened to this as an audio book and it felt very long! It's packed full of different tips and, of course, different story examples. Most are from a corporate setting - many from Procter & Gamble - and I find it hard to imagine using any of these myself. As the author says, it's important to find your own stories to be able to tell them authentically. He proposes the mnemonic CAR = STORYMAKERS... which, of course, I cannot remember at all. For that reason it would be helpful to have the physical book to be able to refer back to it! Stories can absolutely be powerful tools in getting your message across, and I will definitely work on developing my own...
