Leaving Green Island (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

I have to start by saying that I have been pleasantly surprised by this book. For some wired reason I expected a story set in a white picket fence suburb environment, very early 50's style ambiance. While still on the 'burbs it is very much a contemporary plot with very likable and relatable characters, who manage to deal with life's issues head-on but without unnecessary dwelling nor drama. The love story plot takes place throughout a number of years with Green Island as yet another character. Green Island I would consider similar to Star Island near Miami, Fl. This love story keeps the reader intrigued and anxious to continue reading in order to learn how the characters deal with whatever barriers they might perceive is in their way. I have to say I loved, loved this book, have recommended it to many of my friends. And all ready at 75% into "The Almosts" sequel to Leaving Green Island.Thank You Ms. Barrett. I'd like to thank the author Ms. Em Barrett for this opportunity. Leaving Green Island is a beautiful story of true love amidst time & distance. Brecken and Reed met and fell in love in Green Island when they were in high school. A tragic accident broke them apart. 8 years after, they met again but Brecken is already engaged! Ok i'll have to stop here. You have to read it to find out what happened next!Ms. Barrett's writing is fluid and flawless. She built up her characters well, delving into their personalities. The scenes are so vivid! I can totally imagine Green Island with all the horse carriages, lush greeneries and the tranquility of the place. It's magical! After reading this, i kept on replaying the scenes. *sigh* I so love it!❤️❤️
