OMG - this is absolutely brilliant! A nice, grounded thriller - with a twist of ghost genre as well! This is a departure from the author's crime detective series, (ie. with Thora [= solictor/lawyer] as the sleuth)and it really works, with a new cast of characters, a bleak, cold, deathly backdrop of a deserted Icelandic island-village in the bleak midwinter, and a series of unlikely coincidences. Great! I was absolutely freaked out at times reading this book. It was a fright-inducing read. Last night I thought, "Why am I reading this before I go to sleep?" Luckily, I slept well. The only problem I have is with the ending. It reminded me of why I don't like watching horror movies, because a lot of them end the same way with the evil being surviving in some shape or form. I don't like the idea of Katrin as a malevolent ghost who will possibly hurt/murder people that dare to inhabit the house she now calls her own.
Wasn't as scary as I thought it would be, probably should have listened to the audio

Brilliant mystery, thriller, ghost story! One of the best I've read.

Creepy, eerie, captivating and entirely satisfying ghost tale.

Genuinely creepy at times, but with a somewhat flat ending...
