A fun, true story about a library who brings her library into relevancy in a small town. The excitement is conveyed through the words and through the illustrations. The two page spreads that are set vertically rather than horizontally add to the charm. I can imagine it being a well received read aloud, expecially for second or third graders. It could be used as a lesson about the importance of books by teachers or parents trying to drum up some added enthusiam for reading. What a fantastic story about an intrepid librarian. As a librarian, I love these kinds of stories and this one is pretty good. The story is quick and I think kids will enjoy it. I love the fact that it is based on a true story...even if that does mean we shelve it in the nonfiction section instead of with the picture books! I thought the illustrations really did justice to the story as well. Good choice. 2012-13 Missouri Show Me Award Nominee.
Good story; but the text is stilted. The illustrations do support the text and add to the story.

Advanced picture book, comic art style. Guess we all have to find our rooftops.
