Lion, The Lamb, The Hunted, The (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

I'd actually say 3.5 stars. I took off some because I happened to guest the "shocker" in the early stage that others referred to in their reviews. However, there were still plenty of other twists and turns to keep me busy and although I guessed part of it, I didn't fully know the why or how. Very quick and nail-biting read. And, Patrick's mother makes "Mommie Dearest" look like mother of the year! I will definitely be picking up the next one in this series to see where it goes from here. Found it randomly on Amazon, chose it because the title reminded me of something Edward Cullen said in Twilight. However, once I started reading it, I realized that this was an incredible story. Patrick was an abused child who grew up to be a writer with some kind of OCD that makes him list words compulsively. He moved from the midwest somewhere to California, and I could immediately identify with him. My heart went out to him several times. The story takes a turn when he starts investigating the kidnapping of a boy from a town in Texas, which is somehow connected to his now dead abusive mother and rich uncle. The story becomes a thriller and reads just like any generic chase movie, complete with the stereotypical bad guy revealing all in the end. I kind of lost it by the Reveal, and tried hard not to roll my eyes a lot.But other than that, I became hooked on author Andrew Kaufman!

A much better book than the cover or title would suggest.
