Sie versucht stets ihren Sohn ein Vaterersatz zu sein, liest wegen ihm Baseballbücher und Comics, um mitreden zu können und liebt ihren kleinen Sohn abgöttisch. Da sie vor 6 Jahren von ihrem Mann von einer Minute auf die andere verlassen wurde, fällt es ihr schwer, einem Mann wieder zu vertrauen und Nähe zuzulassen. Deswegen hat sie auch zunächst große Schwierigkeiten damit, Radley bei Mitch zu lassen, aus Angst, dass sie dadurch in seiner Schuld stehen könnte. Ihr Job hilft ihr oft dabei, die Kontrolle von allem zu behalten.Mitch ist da stellenweise das genaue Gegenteil. Er nimmt das Leben nicht allzu ernst wie Hester und arbeitet als Comiczeichner. Er hat u.a. die Lieblingscomicfigur von Radley geschaffen. Schnell verliert er sein Herz an Radley, aber auch Hester geht nicht mehr aus seinem Kopf.Am Anfang kam er mir durch seine forsche Art sehr aufdringlich rüber. Ich konnte zunächst nicht verstehen, dass er Hester schon so schnell so eindeutig berühren konnte. Allerdings konnte ich sein Gefühlsleben im Laufe der Geschichte immer besser verstehen und nachvollziehen.Aber auch Radley konnte sehr schnell mein Herz im Sturm erobern. Seine Begeisterung für Comics, dem Zeichen und dem Leben an sich ist ansteckend und zeigt den Erwachsenen täglich aufs Neue, dass auch die kleinen Dinge im Leben glücklich machen können.Durch die etwas größere Schrift liest dich das Buch sehr flüssig und leicht, ist aber leider viel zu schnell vorbei.Die Covergestaltung ist wunderbar gelungen und ist mit seinen zarten Farben und der tollen Schriftart ein Hingucker in jedem Bücherregal.Romantiker und frisch Verliebte werden bei diesem Buch auf ihre Kosten kommen. Ein toller Roman für verregnete Nachmittage.
Bukan salah satu buku favorite saya, tetapi tetap enak untuk dibaca. Jika ditanya kenapa ? mungkin karena proses hubungannya yang cukup singkat, konflik yang ada sangat jelas, dan hanya berputar2 dirasa khawatir yang dialami oleh Hester.Setelah berpisah dengan suaminya, Allan, Hester berjuang untuk membesarkan Rad putranya. Memang sulit bagi Hester untuk menerima kenyataan bahwa suaminya tidak pernah menaruh perhatian pada Rad, bagaimana mungkin orang lain seperti Mitch bisa menaruh perhatian pada Rad yang bukan ayahnya.Mitch sipenulis komik yang sebenarnya terlahir dalam keluarga kaya bukanlah orang yang Hester pilih, kenapa ? karena pekerjaan dan kesukaan Mitch pada komik. belum lagi kebiasaannya berbicara pada Taz anjingnya.Cinta saja tidak akan cukup bagi Hester, karena dulu dia mencintai Allan, tetapi mantan suaminya tersebut pergi begitu Rad lahir, apakah cinta Mitch cukup besar untuk menerima dia dan rad ?Tetapi ternyata hanya Mitch yang bisa mewujudkan mimpinya

Reading Challenge # 6 A book by a female author (well, I had the book and this is one category it fit).Local Hero is a book about single mother, Hester, and a comic book author, Mitch. As usual to chick-flicks, boy meets girl and happily ever after. Hester had an unlucky marriage when she was quite young. As a result she ended up with her son, Radley. Due to the break up Hester is convinced all men are bad and there to leave her. She moves to an apartment building with her son and because of a pizza mess-up meets Mitch, a comic book writer. He instantly knows she is someone to catch and pretty soon understands he is in love.Mitch begins with looking after Hester´s son after school when she is still at work. And then the continuous debate starts - I love you and I want to marry you. I cannont, I had a bad marriage and I don`t trust men. But I love you and I want to marry you. But I still don`t trust men.

In German I guess you would say "Schund", here I'm only able to pronounce it as kitsch or rubbish - really, at first I thought it ought to be worth to read (I am glad it was a gift) as the author has seemed to be very successful (with as I've read more than 100 novels), but actually I can't understand. The only thing I thought was it was pure imagination of feelings and incoherent in total. Sorry to say so (am I?) but I don't think it's good to write as much stories as you can if there is no SOUL in it! I suppose this has been my first and (nearly) my last novel of Nora Roberts (only because another one is standing in my book-shelf, otherwise I wouldn't even think of reading it ...).

3.5 StarsNora Roberts has always been hit or miss with me and this one I found just okay.Hester Wallace moves into a new apartment with her 9 yr old son Radley. Hester is a single parent after Radley's father decides being a responsible grown up isn't the life for him, Radley was only a year old or so when his father abandoned them. Because of this Hester is determined to NEVER trust another man!Mitch Dempsey lives in the same building as Hester and Radley, he decides to introduce himself when the pizza delivery came to his door rather then his new neighbors. Mitch very much likes Radley and they soon form a very strong bond, their friendship is actually quite heartwarming. Slowly Mitch falls for Hester and tries to win her over. I think this is where I start to lose interest....Mitch is CLEARLY not her her ex husband, nor is anything like him, yet he is constantly trying to do things to prove to her he's not and the minute she feels the tough shell around her heart crack she reminds herself how she felt when her ex walked out on them.Eventually we get our HEA, but by that time I really wasn't feeling anything for Hester, but I loved the dynamics between Mitch and young Rad, so for them I'm glad for the HEA.
